Planning a wedding in Nebraska? Whether you're saying "I do" in Lincoln, Omaha, or a small town in between—there’s a lot to juggle. I’ve worked with dozens of couples as a wedding photographer all across the state, and I’ve seen a few common (and totally avoidable) mistakes pop up again and again.

So let’s talk about them—and how to sidestep them like a pro.

1. Booking the Venue Before Choosing a Date

I get it—venues book fast. But before you sign on the dotted line, think about season, light, and your must-have vendors (like your photographer 🙋‍♀️).

👉 Tip: Reach out to your top 2–3 vendors first and ask about availability before locking anything in.

2. Skipping the Backup Plan for Outdoor Weddings

Nebraska weather is wild. 75 and sunny turns into sideways rain in an hour.

👉 Tip: Have a solid Plan B if you’re getting married outside—tents, indoor options, or venues that have both.

3. Underestimating the Time Needed for Photos

"We’ll just need 15 minutes!" is a sentence I’ve heard a lot. But relaxed, meaningful photos take time.

👉 Tip: Budget at least 60 minutes for portraits, especially if you're doing a first look or family shots. Bonus: it gives you a breather on a busy day.

4. Trying to DIY Everything

Pinterest makes it look easy, but wedding DIYs eat up time and often cost more than expected.

👉 Tip: Choose 1–2 projects you actually enjoy doing, and let vendors or rental companies handle the rest.

5. Forgetting to Feed the Crew

Your photographer, DJ, and planner are with you all day—we need fuel to keep going!

👉 Tip: Add vendor meals to your catering count. We’ll love you forever.

6. Not Having a Timeline (Or Leaving It Too Loose)

Winging it = chaos.

👉 Tip: Even a loose timeline keeps everyone on track. I help all my couples build one based on lighting, events, and when you want to sneak away for golden hour photos.

7. Skipping the Engagement Session

I include engagement sessions in all full-day wedding packages for a reason—it’s a game-changer.

👉 Tip: It’s not just about cute photos. It’s about getting comfy in front of the camera and building trust before the big day.

8. Overlooking Smaller, Unique Venues

There’s more to Nebraska weddings than barns and ballrooms. Some of my the most beautiful and unique spots are places couples hadn’t even heard of.

👉 Tip: Look into spots like Crete Carrier Riverview Lodge or small-town gems near Lincoln and Omaha. Hidden venues = magic photos.

9. Not Thinking About Light

Lighting changes everything in photos.

👉 Tip: Ask your photographer what time the light will be best for portraits or ceremony. We can help you plan around that for the dreamiest results.

10. Trying to Make Everyone Else Happy

This is a big one. Weddings come with opinions—lots of them. But your wedding should feel like you.

👉 Tip: Make space for traditions that matter and let go of ones that don’t. Your people will get it.
