If you’re planning a wedding and want a venue that combines natural beauty, convenience, and comfort, Mallet Lodge at Platte River State Park is a solid choice. Here’s a deep dive into why it works so well, especially if your guests are coming from Lincoln or surrounding areas.
Location & Access
Platte River State Park is located near Louisville, Nebraska. It sits on southern bluffs of the Platte River.
It’s about 40 minutes from Lincoln, making it accessible for you, your vendors, and your guests without long travel. If you are from Lincoln or Omaha, the drive is short enough to simplify logistics and reduce stress.
Venue Capacity & Facilities
Mallet Lodge can accommodate up to 125 guests, making it a great fit for mid-sized weddings. It also features a convenient serving window for a bar, perfect for keeping drinks flowing during your reception
It includes a kitchen, which is key if you’ll have catering or need prep or warming space.
Wireless Internet is available in the lodge.
Cabins & Lodging for Wedding Mornings
One of the things I love about having cabins on-site or nearby is how it makes the morning of the wedding smoother. You can have your bridal party, makeup, hair, etc. all in a nearby cabin, so no scrambling across town. At Platte River State Park you have lodging options that work great:
Modern cabins: 21 “housekeeping” or modern cabins with fully-equipped kitchenettes, bathrooms, etc.
Camper cabins: 31 cabins that sleep 4-6, with refrigerator, fire grate, picnic table, linens provided. These share centralized shower / bath.
Glamping cabins: For something more elevated, there are glamping units with modern bathrooms, nice amenities, wooded and scenic views. These cabins are perfect for “getting ready” — hair & makeup, photos of details, dressing, calm energy in the morning, etc.
Scenery & Outdoor Features
The park is over 400 acres, with rolling bluffs, hardwood forests, scenic overlooks, observation towers, and river views.
Jenny Newman Lake and Owen Landing are water features in the park. Lakes and ponds are great for photo backdrops.
Trails, wildlife, woods, open sky... these all add variety for wedding photography: portraits in woods, near water, light filtering through trees.
There is also a nature center in the lower level of Mallet Lodge that adds charm, a backup for bad weather or just something to explore.
Why It’s a Great Wedding Venue
Convenience: Close to Lincoln, cabins and lodge in same area cut down transport time.
Beautiful natural setting: water features, woods, lake, river views, scenic trails. Great for ceremony, photos, and guest enjoyment.
Flexible lodging: lots of cabin options plus “glamping” style units. Guests can stay on-site or very near.
Affordability: Moderate rental fees, with venue price starting at $300/day; lodging options range in price depending on style and capacity. Good value compared to many banquet halls.
Versatility: Indoor and outdoor spaces; cabin prep time; options through much of the year.
